5 Everyday Habits for a Healthy Heart

Your heart works every second of your life โ€” and the small choices you make each day decide how well it works for the years ahead. You don't need expensive routines; these five simple habits go a long way.

1. Walk for 30 minutes daily

A brisk 30-minute walk, five days a week, strengthens the heart, helps control blood pressure and improves mood. Morning or evening โ€” pick whichever you can do regularly.

2. Cut down salt, sugar and fried food

Too much salt raises blood pressure; too much sugar and fried food raise weight and cholesterol. Cook with less oil, prefer home food over packaged snacks, and keep sweets for special occasions.

3. Don't smoke, limit alcohol

Smoking is one of the biggest causes of heart attacks โ€” quitting at any age helps. If you drink alcohol, keep it minimal.

4. Sleep 7โ€“8 hours and manage stress

Poor sleep and constant stress quietly raise blood pressure and blood sugar. Fixed sleep timings, some quiet time daily, and talking to family about worries all protect your heart.

5. Get regular check-ups

High blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol often show no symptoms in the early years. After age 30โ€“35, get your BP, blood sugar and lipid profile checked at least once a year โ€” more often if advised.
